In this full day private tour, explore the Cognac country with an English-speaking cognac expert / local guide driving you to a famous Cognac house (Rémy Martin, Martell or Courvoisier). Naturally, you will have the opportunity to have a cognac tasting at the end of the visit. After lunch (not included), you will go to a cooperage and finally to a craft distillery which is supplying major brands and producing its own cognacs. Enjoy your tastings and meetings with craft people living in this charming terroir and do not worry about driving, your expert guide will take you to all the places in a comfortable private vehicle.
Meet your guide at 9am in a central place in Angouleme or at your hotel in Angouleme if within 15 minutes driving distance from the city's Tourist Office. In this full day tour, you will discover 3 of the various facets of the Cognac country with your professional local guide.
The famous Cognac brands own more than 85 % of the worldwide market. Experience the luxury approach of producing and selling cognac. This first visit ends by a tasting of several cognacs paired with some appetizers.
For lunch, your guide will suggest a typical restaurant, where locals meet: a true moment of conviviality and the real way of experiencing the French way of life.
Craft distillers represent less than 2% of the Cognac market but they own around 97% of the vineyard. When meeting one of them, you will see the elaboration of cognac from vine to glass, all ending in the company of the distiller. Then, you will have another family cognac tasting.
Finally, without barrels, there is no Cognac. Barrels are one of the most important tools to elaborate cognacs. As 50% of the French cooperages are located in the vineyard of Cognac, touring the vineyard has to include the visit of one of them (not open to public). Please note that in July and August, cooperages are closed, so this visit is replaced by another one in a wine estate producing wines, cognacs and Pineau des Charentes.
This tour is also an opportunity to discover Romanesque churches, typical sceneries of a terroir considered by many as the “French Tuscany”.
At the end of the tour, your guide will drive you back to Angouleme.
